Cobot maker Dobot partners with auto giant Dongfeng to spur automation

The partnership between Dobot and Dongfeng aims to leverage their respective strengths in technology, product, and market to explore the innovative application of robotics in intelligent manufacturing.

Chinese cobot developer Dobot (越疆机器人) has entered into a partnership with Dongfeng Equipment, a leading provider of specialized machinery and automated production lines for the automotive and industrial sectors, media reported.

The tie-up aims to deepen the two companies’ cooperation in intelligent manufacturing equipment development as well as robotic application, to help drive the transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing industry.

During the signing ceremony, Liu Zhufu, Vice President of Dobot, and Liu Xiangqing, Party Secretary of Dongfeng Equipment, and Wu Hongjian, Vice President of Dongfeng Equipment, attended the event.

As a global leader in intelligent robot and desktop cobot manufacturing, Dobot has developed cutting-edge solutions to help customers across various industries enhance their production capabilities and efficiency.

Dobot’s light-payload cobot now ranks among the world’s top three players in terms of market share. Its cobot series spans payload categories from 0.5 kg to 20 kg, featuring easy-to-use solutions that shorten the deployment cycles for clients in the automotive sector.

With 90% of its components developed by itself or sourced at home, the Shenzhen-based startup has applied its robots in industries such as automobiles, 3C, electronics, semiconductor, medicine, and new retail, among others.

Dongfeng Equipment, founded in 1969, has been committed in recent years to the development of digital and intelligent equipment. Its business area also includes welding and flexible machining, industrial services, and enterprise digital solutions.

The partnership between Dobot and Dongfeng aims to leverage their respective strengths in technology, product, and market to explore the innovative application of robotics in intelligent manufacturing.

According to a press release, the companies will work together to develop intelligent manufacturing products, cultivate talent, and promote the industrialization of intelligent manufacturing products, so as to provide global customers with smarter products and better services.

Over the past two years, Dobot has accumulated extensive experience in the automotive industry, counting Volkswagen, BMW, Porsche, Toyota, and Beiqi Foton among its clients. Dobot assisted them in applications such as auto parts examination, grinding and sanding, cutting and screw driving.
