Inspection robot startup Brohex gets angel funds, rides on digitization

As China's industrial sector undergoes a digital shift in recent years, robots are increasingly counted on to conduct autonomous tasks, such as unmanned inspection and patrol, in mining, electricity and steelmaking industries.

Brohex (北新智能), a company making AI-driven inspection robots for industrial application, has completed an angel round for an undisclosed amount of money.

The round was backed solely by Nanjing Innovation Capital Group, with the proceeds to be used for marketing and promoting its products.

Founded in 2020 in eastern China’s Nanjing, Brohex specializes in visual AI technologies and combines it with robotics to supply industrial clients with an array of smart safety inspection robots.

Its product line consists of rail inspection robot, rail anti-explosion robot and wheeled inspection robot.

With a growing emphasis on safe production in the industrial sector, a few big corporations are investing heavier sums into digitalization, and that’s where Brohex came in, said Xu Chenxin, founder and CEO of the startup.

He added that robots equipped with visual AI have “eyes” to see and thus can take over dreary on-site inspection work from human employees.

“This is to help firms pinpoint issues with their equipment in a safer, more efficient and accurate manner under complex conditions,” he explained.

Brohex has partnered with China Huadian Corporation, Anhui Province Energy Co. Ltd, State Grid and other major energy suppliers.
