Megvii’s robot unit lands CE label to clear way for EU market entry

According to Megvii A&R, compared to traditional pallet racks, its 3D pallet shuttle solutions are applicable to more scenarios, while also boasting strengths such as a lower energy consumption, less noise, greater scalability and better collaboration within a robot fleet.

Megvii Automation & Robotics (旷视机器人), the robotic affiliate of AI giant Megvii (旷视), recently landed a CE certificate for its 3D pallet shuttle robot at the LogiMAT fair in Germany, marking an important step for its autonomous material-handling solutions to compete in European markets.

Megvii Automation & Robotics (herewith referred to as Megvii A&R) announced the acquisition of a CE certificate together with SGS, a leading testing, inspection and certification company.

This also makes the company the first among domestic peers to obtain the official stamp of approval indicating its safety performance is compliant with EU standards.

The CE label is an endorsement of a product’s safety levels, and in the words of Lu, it is the ticket to enter the European market.

Megvii A&R mainly supplies its products and solutions to two scenarios, including smart micro order fulfilment center and smart warehouse, to “help improve the cost-effectiveness and flexibility of the overall supply chain,” according to the company’s website.

One of the flagship products, a 3D pallet shuttle system capable of moving in four directions, offers the agility and flexibility to automate complex processes in manufacturing, warehouse and logistics industries.

“Pallet shuttle technologies originated in Europe and after 30 years of development, its applications have become fairly mature and stable,” said Lu Jianping, director of Megvii A&R’s overseas business.

She added that clients face faster and ever more varied changes in their business.

In response, the 3D pallet shuttle system, also known as MegBot, is able to be deployed with speed and scalability.

“It responds to changes in customer demands in a timely fashion, and has won the favor of a growing number of clients,” Lu told the media.

The 3D pallet shuttle system is built upon Megvii’s robotic platform and features a mechanic electric drive design.

It also comes with six industry-grade laser distance sensors, providing an extra layer of safety for the vehicle to avoid collision.

According to Megvii A&R, compared to traditional pallet racks, its 3D pallet shuttle solutions are applicable to more scenarios, while also boasting strengths such as a lower energy consumption, less noise, greater scalability and better collaboration within a robot fleet.

These attributes promise to deliver a higher ROI for clients, said Megvii A&R.

Currently, the 3D pallet shuttle robot has been adopted by well-known clients such as Panasonic, Bull, Ganfeng Lithium Group, Cofco and VX Cold Chain in their factories or warehouses.
