United Aircraft releases new drone platform Q20 for variety of use cases

In an official WeChat post, Beijing-based United Aircraft said this UAV can be deployed for plant protection purposes and is 36 times more efficient than its rivals, without elaborating.

United Aircraft (联合飞机), a Chinese developer of industrial drone and UAV, has launched its new generation of flight platform Q20, with a string of performance upgrades.

The quadcopter drone, meant for industrial use, weighs in at 20 kg and has a dimension of 1,595 × 1,501 × 533 mm when with unfolded arms and propellers.

It measures 559 × 455 × 335 mm when the arms and propellers are folded and fits easily into a backpack.

The aerial vehicle caters to industries ranging from agriculture and power supply to emergency response and firefighting.

It has a maximum speed of 98 kph, a range of 75 km and an endurance of 70 min, an increase of 20%, 70% and 20%, respectively, over its predecessor.

The drone offers four types of power battery packs to choose from, promising varying lengths of battery life.

It contains time-of-flight lidars and makes use of six sensors installed at various parts of its body to achieve omnidirectional obstacle avoidance.

The drone can operate in a pitch dark environment thanks partly to built-in infrared sensors and its 80 TOPS computing power.

Navigating itself on positioning signals transmitted by the BeiDou satellite system, it sends images to locations up to 20 km away via a 20MHz broadband.

This is because the drone has a telecom module that is allows it to connect with 4G, 5G networks and access the BeiDou Short Message communication protocol.

With a load capacity of 10 kg, it is able to carry a range of extra mounts, like dual-light gimbal, quad gimbal LED downlight, spotlight, loudspeaker, 4G base station, projectile and parachute.

Q20 carries up to four mounts simultaneous during a single flight.

The operator can fly this drone with a remote controller that comes with an 8-inch high-resolution screen and IP55-rated shell.

In an official WeChat post, Beijing-based United Aircraft said this UAV can be deployed for plant protection purposes and is 36 times more efficient than its rivals, without elaborating.

From the breadbasket in the nation’s northeast, to choppy seas in its south, and from easternmost islands to snowy plateaus in the west, the drone traverses wintry and tropical climates, and pushes the envelope in industrial application with innovations, said the post.
